Aion Rising is set in Cambria, a high fantasy realm where mighty empires, kingdoms, and guilds fiercely compete for power and supremacy. The seemingly indomitable Kelidan Empire has waged a long and brutal campaign, conquering much of the east of Cambria, casting a dark shadow of tyranny over the land. Only a handful of nations in the north and west remain to resist their insatiable thirst for domination.
An uneasy peace gives the false appearance of calm, as the Kingdom of Dusane continues to prepare itself for inevitable invasion by the Kelidans. The Northern Clans of Korast maintain that the affairs of the "southern lands" are not their concern, but their warchiefs understand that the growing shadow will not stop at the snow line.
Everything changes, however, on midnight of midsummer night, when the appearance of a blazing green comet in the northern sky signals the Great Alignment of the Seven Spheres. As the planets converge in a cosmic conjunction, a former Archmage of the Mage's Guild is the first to recognize that these events were foretold in the Aeos Prophecy. An ancient text, it portends that the comet will bring with it devastation and destruction on a scale unimaginable. It references a 'great magical upheaval' which will shake the foundations of the world, and reveal a new order of power.
As the blazing comet streaks across the sky, a cataclysmic magical storm soon follows, unleashing powerful auras of Aion energy that permeate the continent. Rivers dry up, towns crumble, and mountains are torn asunder by the violence of the storm. But from the ruins emerge the Attuned - a special few who are seemingly immune from the caustic effects of the energy field and have the ability to wield it for their own purposes.
It soon became clear that the power of these Aion champions could stand against the collective weight of arms and even conventional arcane magics. With kingdoms, factions, and empires competing for control of the Aion energy sources, the once unassailable Kelidan Empire's supremacy is threatened. Kingdoms long ago conquered rise up with renewed strength. A new Age of Heroes arises in Cambria, and the fate of the land hangs in the balance.
