The full list of Factions and Regions will be revealed over time - shown here is a sample of three Factions and their sigils.
Factions are NPC groups, peoples, nations or organizations that are noteworthy in the game world. Every Region is controlled by a Faction, which has its own history, motivations, strengths and weaknesses. Within the game world, Heroes are free to align with Factions of their choosing, which can open up Rewards such as special Questing opportunities, items, recipes and more.
The design philosophy behind Factions is that Cambria is a living and breathing world that existed prior to the Aion Storm, and when players enter the Game World, they are not entering a blank slate waiting for their arrival. They are entering a world filled with lore, history, political structures, and a rich tapestry of conflict woven into the narrative. We want players to dive into these elements and then write the future chapters of its story with their own hands.
Heroes can participate in World Events which are special, time-limited events that happen in a particular region on the World Map in which 2 or more Factions are in a conflict. If a Hero travels to the Region where a World Event is happening, they are prompted as to which Faction they wish to act in allegiance with. From there, Heroes can Diplomacy Points for successful Actions done on behalf of their chosen Faction. Diplomacy Points can be used to obtain special rewards from the Faction.
As the narrative progresses, there will be inevitable conflicts between major factions that lead to wars. Heroes, if they wish to get involved, can pick one of the two Factions to support. The aggregate support of the playerbase will help to turn the tide for one of the two Factions, leading to one of the Factions losing control of the Region in question, or even being wiped out from the game completely. Heroes on the 'losing side' of a Faction war suffer no penalties other than the loss of utility of their Diplomacy Points for that particular Faction.
